Read & Create©

The goal of this program is to combine the joy of reading and the creation of an artistic statement. The focus of this program is to remove the barriers school-aged children face to learning, and to support their strengths. Reading a story or poem will be the inspiration for the creation of an artistic statement, encouraging self-expression and raising the level of self-esteem for struggling readers.  Students will have fun, be actively engaged and have the opportunity to practice comprehension skills and language/vocabulary development in a group setting. “Art is proven to develop a greater self-discipline and self confidence in students, which are essential skills not just for the classroom, but also for real-life application.” (Clare Richmond)
